thebar.com: Product Strategy + Voice UX

Thebar.com was created to serve as a digital hub for all of Diageo's portfolio of brands. Beer, wine and spirits were all represented at the core and on the surface a virtual bartender acted as the gateway to content. The bar.com contained an early version of “voice” UX, years ahead of its time pioneering interaction through typed questions and pre-shot and assembled video responses drawn from thousands of separate video clips.

My time on this client was as a member of the original pitch team that won the account and then later as the creative director of both the brand and the website. We were awarded the Captain Morgan work for the strength of this effort. This pioneering effort in narrative, interaction logic, and system design was built to turn digital constraints into competitive advantages. If built today, it would use an LLM while maintaining the quirky design direction that made it an award winner.
